Slingshot Build — Terms of Service
Last updated: June 22, 2026 Effective date: July 7, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you ("you," "your," or "User") and Slingshot Labs LLC, a Michigan limited liability company ("Slingshot," "we," "us," or "our"). They govern your access to and use of the Slingshot Build website at slingshot.build, the visual editor, the deploy and publishing pipeline, the command-line tools, the Slingshot Convention spec, and all related services (together, the "Service").
By creating an account, connecting a repository, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Acceptable Use Policy and Privacy Policy, which are incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Plain-language summary (not a substitute for the full Terms): Slingshot Build is a tool that helps you visually edit and deploy a website whose code lives in your own GitHub repository. You keep your code, your domain, your AI subscription, and your images — we never take ownership of them. You're responsible for what you build and publish. The Service is provided "as is," our liability is limited, and most disputes are resolved by individual arbitration. Please read §16 (Arbitration) carefully — it affects your legal rights.
1. Who we are and what the Service does
Slingshot Build is a setup, editing, and deployment layer for websites you create with your own tools (typically AI coding assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini). The Service lets you:
- Connect a GitHub repository you control and visually edit the editable regions of a site that follows the Slingshot Convention (
data-sl-*attributes); - Commit those edits back to your own repository;
- Trigger builds (which run on GitHub's infrastructure, not ours) and deploy the resulting site to a preview URL and, on a paid plan, to a live URL or your own custom domain;
- Optionally inject your own third-party snippets (analytics, pixels, embeds) into your own repository.
What the Service is not. To be clear about scope and responsibility:
- We do not generate websites or write your code. You bring code you already have.
- We do not provide, resell, or proxy artificial intelligence. Any AI you use is your own subscription with your own provider, governed by that provider's terms. We never make AI calls on your behalf.
- We do not run your builds on our servers. Your code is built on GitHub's runners using your compute. We receive only the finished build artifact.
- We do not host your images or media. Your images live in your repository or in storage you control.
- We are not your domain registrar, your code host, or your certificate authority of record beyond what is necessary to route and serve your published site.
You can read the full list of things we deliberately don't do at slingshot.build, and our "take it with you" commitment is described in §10.
2. Eligibility and age requirements
You may use the Service only if you can form a binding contract with Slingshot and are not barred from doing so under applicable law.
- You must be at least 13 years old to create an account or use the Service. The Service is not directed to, and may not be used by, anyone under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it.
- If you are under 18 (or the age of majority where you live), you may use the Service only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf and is responsible for your activity. If you are a parent or guardian permitting a minor to use the Service, you agree to these Terms and are responsible for the minor's use, including all content created, published, and paid for.
- If you use the Service on behalf of a company or other organization, you represent that you are authorized to bind that organization, and "you" includes that organization.
3. Accounts and security
You create an account by authenticating through GitHub OAuth. You are responsible for:
- maintaining the confidentiality and security of your GitHub account and any credentials used to access the Service;
- all activity that occurs under your account; and
- the scope of access you grant us through GitHub (see §5).
Notify us promptly at security@slingshot.build if you suspect unauthorized access. We are not liable for losses arising from unauthorized use of your account that result from your failure to safeguard your credentials. You may not share an account, sell or transfer an account, or impersonate any person or entity.
4. Your repositories, your content, and the license you grant us
You own your content. As between you and Slingshot, you retain all right, title, and interest in and to your repositories, source code, text, images, designs, data, and the websites you build and publish ("Your Content"). We claim no ownership of Your Content.
Limited license to operate the Service. To provide the Service, you grant Slingshot a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to access, read, store, cache, reproduce, modify (only as you direct through the editor or inject tools), create commits in, transmit, build-orchestrate, deploy, publish, and display Your Content solely to the extent necessary to operate and provide the Service to you and at your direction. This license exists only to make the Service work; it ends when you remove the relevant content, disconnect the repository, or close your account, except for (a) copies retained transiently in backups or logs for a commercially reasonable period and (b) anything you have published that has been cached or copied by third parties or the public outside our control.
GitHub authorization. When you connect a repository, you authorize Slingshot, through GitHub OAuth (including repo and workflow scopes), to read repository contents, write commits, and create or update a deployment workflow file in repositories you designate. You may revoke this authorization at any time through your GitHub settings; doing so will disable editing and deployment for the affected repositories.
Your responsibility for Your Content. You are solely responsible for Your Content and for ensuring you have all rights necessary to use it, including content produced by AI tools you use. You represent that Your Content and its publication through the Service do not and will not violate any law or these Terms (including the Acceptable Use Policy) or infringe or misappropriate any third party's rights. We do not pre-screen Your Content and are not responsible for it.
5. Third-party services and sub-processors
The Service depends on and interoperates with third-party services, including (currently) GitHub (repository hosting and build runners), Cloudflare (deployment, routing, custom hostnames, and TLS), Stripe (payment processing), Supabase (authentication and database), our deploy-relay infrastructure host, and any third-party snippets or services you inject (such as Google Analytics, Plausible, Meta Pixel, Mailchimp, or Calendly).
- Your use of those third-party services is governed by their terms and privacy policies, not ours, and you are responsible for complying with them.
- We are not responsible or liable for the acts, omissions, availability, security, or content of third-party services, including any service you inject into your own site.
- We may add, remove, or change sub-processors and infrastructure providers as the Service evolves. A current list of sub-processors will be maintained in or linked from our Privacy Policy.
6. Acceptable use
Your use of the Service is subject to our Acceptable Use Policy, which is part of these Terms. Among other things, you may not use the Service to build, publish, distribute, or facilitate illegal content, malware, phishing, fraud, infringing material, or content that sexually exploits minors, and you may not abuse the deployment pipeline or attempt to circumvent per-site billing. We may remove content, unpublish a site, or suspend or terminate access for any violation, at our discretion, with or without notice.
7. Privacy
Our collection and use of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy. In summary, to provide the Service we process information such as your GitHub identity and email, an encrypted GitHub access token, project and repository metadata, your edit history, deployment records, abuse reports, and (for paid plans) billing information handled by Stripe. By using the Service, you consent to that processing.
8. Plans, billing, and payments
Free build and preview. Connecting a repository, using the visual editor, committing edits, and viewing an auto-updating, noindexed preview URL are free, with no time limit. Preview sites are not intended for production traffic.
Paid publishing. Publishing a site to a live {slug}.slingshot.build URL or attaching a custom domain requires a paid subscription, currently $5 per published site, per month (or another price then displayed at checkout). Each published site is a separate subscription item; if you publish multiple sites, you pay per site. Bandwidth and usage are subject to the fair-use limits in the Acceptable Use Policy.
Billing terms. Subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring basis through Stripe and renew automatically until canceled. You authorize us (through Stripe) to charge your payment method for all fees, applicable taxes, and recurring charges. You are responsible for any taxes other than taxes on our net income. Prices may change; we will give reasonable advance notice of a price increase, and the new price applies at your next renewal.
Cancellation. You may cancel any site subscription at any time, in one step, from your account. On cancellation, the site remains live until the end of the current paid period, then enters a 7-day read-only grace period, after which it is unpublished. Your code, content, images, and domain are unaffected — they remain in your GitHub repository and at your registrar regardless of subscription status.
Refunds. Except where required by law, fees are non-refundable and there are no refunds or credits for partial periods, downgrades, or unused time.
Failed payments. If a charge fails, we may retry, downgrade, suspend, or unpublish the affected site after reasonable notice.
9. Publishing, preview, and your role as publisher
When you publish a site through the Service, you are the publisher of that content. Preview URLs are served with no-index headers and on non-memorable subdomains; they are not a guarantee of privacy, and you should not rely on a preview URL to keep content confidential.
We may, at our discretion and consistent with the Acceptable Use Policy and applicable law, unpublish, disable, rate-limit, or remove any site or content that we believe violates these Terms, creates legal or security risk, or harms the Service or others. Where practical we will tell you why, but we are not required to do so in advance.
10. The "take it with you" principle
Slingshot is designed so you are never locked in. Your code stays in your GitHub repository, your domain stays at your registrar, your AI stays your own subscription, and your images stay in your repository or your own storage. If the Service is discontinued or you stop using it, your published site can continue to operate by pointing your domain directly at the underlying host; you lose the visual editor, not your site. Nothing in these Terms is intended to create a proprietary format, export barrier, or other lock-in. This principle is a description of how the Service is built, not a warranty of uninterrupted operation (see §13).
11. Intellectual property; feedback
Our IP. The Service itself — including the Slingshot Build application, our software, user interfaces, designs, logos, and the names "Slingshot," "Slingshot Build," and "Slingshot Labs" — is owned by Slingshot or its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. Except for the rights expressly granted to you to use the Service, we reserve all rights. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, resell, or create derivative works of the Service, or remove any proprietary notices, except as permitted by law.
The Slingshot Convention. The Slingshot Convention spec published at slingshot.build/spec is intended to be openly adopted; you are free to use the data-sl-* convention in your own code. This does not grant you any right to use our trademarks or to represent that your product is endorsed by or affiliated with Slingshot.
Feedback. If you send us suggestions or feedback, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use it without restriction or obligation to you.
12. Suspension and termination
By you. You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time, and you may cancel paid subscriptions as described in §8.
By us. We may suspend or terminate your access to all or part of the Service, with or without notice, if: (a) you breach these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy; (b) we are required to by law or a valid legal request; (c) your use poses a security, legal, or operational risk; or (d) we discontinue the Service or a feature. We may also terminate free accounts that have been inactive for an extended period.
Effect of termination. On termination, your right to use the Service ends and we may unpublish sites and delete account data after a commercially reasonable period, subject to law. Your code and content remain in your own GitHub repository. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including §§4–5, 7–8 (accrued fees), 11, 13–18) survive.
13. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, whether express, implied, or statutory. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Slingshot disclaims all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.
Without limiting the above, Slingshot does not warrant that: the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or available at any particular time; builds or deployments will succeed; preview or live sites will be continuously accessible; defects will be corrected; or the Service is free of harmful components. We are not responsible for any loss or corruption of Your Content, for the acts or omissions of third-party services (including GitHub, Cloudflare, Stripe, Supabase, your registrar, or any service you inject), or for content you publish. You are responsible for maintaining your own backups; because your code lives in your GitHub repository, you control your own source of truth.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so some of the above may not apply to you.
14. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:
- No indirect damages. Slingshot and its members, managers, employees, and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or business, arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
- Liability cap. Slingshot's total aggregate liability for all claims arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms will not exceed the greater of (a) the total amounts you paid Slingshot in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) USD $100.
- These limitations apply regardless of the legal theory and are a fundamental basis of the bargain between us. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
15. Indemnification
You will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Slingshot and its members, managers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to: (a) Your Content or your websites; (b) your use of the Service; (c) your violation of these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy; (d) your violation of any law or any third party's rights; or (e) any third-party service or snippet you connect, inject, or use. We may assume the exclusive defense of any matter subject to indemnification, in which case you will cooperate with us.
16. Dispute resolution; binding arbitration; class-action waiver
PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY — IT AFFECTS YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS, INCLUDING YOUR RIGHT TO SUE IN COURT AND TO HAVE A JURY TRIAL.
Informal resolution first. Before filing a claim, you agree to try to resolve the dispute informally by emailing legal@slingshot.build with a description of the dispute. We'll do the same. If the dispute isn't resolved within 30 days, either party may proceed to arbitration.
Binding arbitration. Except for the carve-outs below, any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved by final and binding individual arbitration, administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules then in effect. The arbitration will be held in Calhoun County, Michigan, or, at your election, by telephone, video, or written submission. The arbitrator's award may be entered in any court with jurisdiction.
Class-action and jury waiver. Disputes will be conducted only on an individual basis and not as a class, collective, consolidated, or representative action. You and Slingshot waive any right to a jury trial and any right to participate in a class action. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims or preside over any representative or class proceeding.
Small-claims carve-out. Either party may bring an individual claim in small-claims court if it qualifies and stays in that court.
Injunctive relief carve-out. Either party may seek injunctive or equitable relief in court to protect its intellectual property or confidential information, or to stop unauthorized use or abuse of the Service.
30-day opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing legal@slingshot.build within 30 days of first accepting these Terms, stating your name and that you opt out of arbitration. Opting out won't affect any other part of these Terms.
Limitations period. Any claim must be brought within one (1) year after it arises, or it is permanently barred, to the extent permitted by law.
17. Governing law and venue
These Terms and any dispute arising out of them or the Service are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and (for matters not subject to arbitration) by the Federal Arbitration Act where applicable. To the extent a dispute is not subject to arbitration and may be brought in court, you and Slingshot consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the state and federal courts located in Calhoun County, Michigan, and waive any objection to that venue.
18. Copyright complaints (DMCA)
We respect intellectual-property rights and respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA"). If you believe content published through the Service infringes your copyright, send a written notice to our designated agent with the information required by 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3):
DMCA Designated Agent Slingshot Labs LLC [MAILING ADDRESS PENDING] Email: legal@slingshot.build
We may remove or disable access to allegedly infringing content, notify the affected user, and provide a counter-notice process. We will terminate, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of repeat infringers.
19. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll provide reasonable notice (for example, by posting the updated Terms with a new "Last updated" date or by email). Changes are effective when posted unless stated otherwise. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you don't agree, stop using the Service.
20. Miscellaneous
- Entire agreement. These Terms, the Acceptable Use Policy, and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and Slingshot about the Service and supersede prior agreements.
- Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect, and the unenforceable provision is modified to the minimum extent necessary (except that if the class-action waiver in §16 is found unenforceable, the arbitration agreement is void).
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them, for example in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
- No third-party beneficiaries. There are none, except our indemnified parties under §15.
- Force majeure. We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
- Notices. We may give notice by posting on the Service or emailing the address associated with your account. Legal notices to us go to legal@slingshot.build and [MAILING ADDRESS PENDING].
- Relationship. Nothing here creates a partnership, agency, employment, or joint venture between you and Slingshot.
